Many people don’t think about the problems that surround us. Many of us isolate from each other. Not being open minded about political, religion, cultural issues. Globalization is integrated global economy marketed especially by free trade, free flow of capital and trapping of cheaper foreign labor markets. There are multiple perspectives of globalization. Many agree that it helps people while other disagree, and strongly believe that it hurt innocent people. For example, in class we learn that people get treated unfair and don’t get the benefit they need when they are working. For instance in digital humanities we saw several videos, where workers in India didn’t have the necessary thing to live well. They were getting pay so little, didn’t get to eat much and live in poor hygiene places. Also, the people that had this workers working for them thought that it was good for them because the companies where getting all the profit. Globalization effect people because the lack of education, financial assistance and cultural issues.
Globalization impact the problem that surround my chosen topic because people don’t look beyond the medical field issues and what is doing to hurt those that can afford medication because the lack of attention, financial assistance and more. One of the main problems when it comes to medical issues is the medical assistance. For example a person that has a lethal illness and doesn’t have the resources necessary they will not get the appropriated attention because the lack of money. For instance, organ transplants. Statistics show that people that have more money and the right resource will get medical attention, while the patient that is chronic and is facing death losses the battle against the illness or whatever the problem is because they don’t have anything to back them off. When it come to my fire project Latinas face late cervical cancer diagnoses because the lack of education on pap smears, annual checkups and more.
Latinas are not being educated about their bodies and the changes that they face. Based on my research this minorities are not being educated on this health topic because the lack of recourses. Also I found out that women can’t afford the necessary treatment when it comes to curing cancer. Ultimately, hospital should not be making profit, by deciding to take care of the ones with money and neglecting the one that don’t have money, is wellness over profit. Health care education should be available for everyone and it should be free, without caring who can afford it and who can’t. Based on my project globalization hurts when Latina women don’t get educated about their reproductive system and ultimately hurts when they are miseducated.
Furthermore technological innovations of the 21st century impact the debate of globalization because now we have media that informs us about everything that goes around the world. Media, internet, television and more don’t inform us about the injustices that are occurring, media is bias and they don’t always say the true. For example once in a while we see that there are new treatments, medication, surgeries, that are saving lives, but few times we see the prices and who mostly have access to it. Also technology impacts the debate because as technology gets better there is more curable medicine but they are not always affordable for each and every one that are in need of them. This is one of the ways that globalization effects because is made to make profit and not affordable to the ones that really need it.
Furthermore, based on my research globalization connects to the globalization because the people study in the research were people of low income. The Latina women ask if they had knowledge about HPV and they said they “didn’t knew nothing about it” (McMullin, De Alba, Chavez & Hubbell, 2005). Also when they were ask if they knew what the cause of cervical cancer was, they came up with myths that are not true related to the lack of education. Furthermore this connects to globalization because people are not being educated and only the people with money are more aware of this health topic. Businesses are making profit of those that have money and neglect the one that really need it.
In addition, in one of the research I read it was mention that, “Research on the factors that influence the use of pap smears by Latinas usually falls under two major categories: economic and cultural”. “Economic factors, in particularly having health insurance, are the most important predictors of cervical cancer screaming in this population” (Gregg,Centurion, Aguillon, Maldonado& Celaya-Alston, 2009). This is important because this proves that women are not getting check because of the fear of not having medical insurance. Furthermore it was mention as well that “Providing health insurance to the uninsured would probably be the most effective method of increasing use of preventive services (Gregg,Centurion, Aguillon, Maldonado& Celaya-Alston, 2009). Also, this same study shows that not all the women in the study had completed a high school education, and most of the women had annual household incomes of less than $15,000. Additionally in some highly populated Latina community, the incidence rate of having cervical cancer is higher amongst Latino women than white women (Molina & Aguirre Molina, 1994). This show that minorities are not getting the essential treatment and that the white population is.
Moreover, my issuer connects to the #occupywallst movement because this issue is related to social and economic inequality , greed, corruption and the undue influence of inequality of corporation on government. The OWS slogan, we are the 99%, addresses the growing income inequality and wealth distribution in the U.S. between the wealthiest 1% and the rest of the population. For instance like I mention before people only think about themselves and they don’t look beyond them. Globalization can be change to solve my issue if people get educated about this health topic. I strongly believe that educating people doest hurt no one. People should be open minded and they should not care about money when it comes to health care, health care should be universal for everyone at no cost. If this issues is fix with education and awareness women would get treated early if this is the case. Women should be though about cervical cancer and HPV.
In conclusion if the Latina communities get educated mortality rated due to cervical cancer will decrease. Globalization effect the lack of pap smears in Latinas because the lack of education, financial assistance and cultural issues. Globalization should be decrease because women that need treatment don’t deserve to die because they can’t afford medication, surgeries, medical attention and more. Women should have the support from anyone in the hospital and clinics and no one should be neglected when getting medical attention. Women should be tough about their reproductive system and beyond so that they could make the right choice for them. Hospitals and big companies should be aware of the mortality rates on people that really need assistance.
